Arsenal Thrash Aston Villa 4 0 To Reach Womens League Cup Final As It Happened

Arsenal thrash Aston Villa 4-0 to reach Women's League Cup final - as it happened

Stina Blackstenius hat-trick sends Arsenal into final

Arsenal have reached the final of the Women's League Cup after a dominant 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at Meadow Park. Stina Blackstenius was the star of the show, scoring a first-half hat-trick to put Arsenal in control of the tie.

The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute when Blackstenius headed home from close range after a cross from Frida Maanum. The Swedish forward then doubled Arsenal's advantage just five minutes later, finishing off a clinical move involving Vivianne Miedema and Katie McCabe.

Blackstenius completed her hat-trick in the 35th minute, firing home a low shot from the edge of the area. The goal effectively ended the contest as Arsenal took a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.

Aston Villa improved in the second half but were unable to find a way back into the game. Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger made a number of important saves to keep the visitors at bay, and the Gunners' defence was resolute throughout.

Arsenal will now face Manchester City in the final of the Women's League Cup on 14 April. The Gunners will be looking to win the trophy for the seventh time in their history.
