Moment of Heartbreak: Toddler Dropped from Ship Window

Negligent Homicide Plea Entered in Case

Disturbing surveillance video obtained by CBS News has shed light on the tragic incident that occurred on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, resulting in the death of an 18-month-old girl. The footage captures the heart-wrenching moment when Chloe Wiegands' grandfather accidentally dropped her from a window.

The grandfather, Salvatore Anello, initially pleaded not guilty to charges of negligent homicide but later changed his plea to guilty. According to witnesses, Anello lifted Chloe to the window to give her a view of the port below. However, the window had been left open, and in a moment of carelessness, Chloe slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground.

The surveillance video, which has not been released to the public, shows Anello frantically attempting to catch Chloe but missing her. The impact of the fall was devastating, and despite the efforts of medical personnel, Chloe was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anello has expressed deep remorse for his actions, stating that he never intended to harm his granddaughter. He was sentenced to 3 years of probation and 100 hours of community service. The cruise line has also implemented new safety measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution when it comes to ensuring the safety of young children. It is crucial for parents and caregivers to be aware of their surroundings and to take all necessary precautions to avoid accidents.
