Magnitude 4.4 Quake Strikes Highland Park, Causing Damage and Trapping Individuals

A powerful magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Los Angeles on Monday afternoon at 12:20 pm PT, according to the US Geological Survey. The earthquake was strongly felt across the Los Angeles area, all the way to San Diego.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Highland Park, a neighborhood in northeast Los Angeles. The earthquake caused significant shaking and damage in the area, including a burst water pipe and an elevator trapping at least one person inside.

The earthquake was followed by a 2.1 magnitude aftershock just two minutes later. The aftershock was also felt in the Los Angeles area.

The earthquake was the largest to hit the Los Angeles area since a 4.7 magnitude earthquake in July 2019. However, it is still considered a moderate earthquake and is not expected to cause any major damage.

Residents in the Los Angeles area are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
