Barry Keoghan Talks ‘Bird,’ Emerald Fennell and Whether He’ll Reprise the Joker in ‘The Batman Part II’

‘The Batman’ star Barry Keoghan discusses his new film ‘Bird,’ working with Emerald Fennell, and the possibility of reprising his role as the Joker in ‘The Batman Part II.’

Barry Keoghan is having a moment. The Irish actor has been turning heads with his recent performances in films like “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dunkirk,” and he’s now set to star in the new film “Bird.” In “Bird,” Keoghan plays a young man who is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality in 1980s Ireland. The film is a powerful and moving drama, and Keoghan gives a standout performance.

In a recent interview, Keoghan talked about “Bird,” his work with director Emerald Fennell, and the possibility of reprising his role as the Joker in “The Batman Part II.”

On “Bird”

Keoghan said that he was drawn to “Bird” because of its powerful script and its complex characters. “I was really moved by the script,” he said. “It’s a really beautiful and heartbreaking story about a young man who is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality. I think it’s a really important story to tell, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Keoghan also praised director Emerald Fennell, who is best known for her work on the film “Promising Young Woman.” “Emerald is an amazing director,” he said. “She’s so passionate about her work, and she really knows how to get the best out of her actors. I learned a lot from her, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with her.”

On the Joker

Keoghan also discussed the possibility of reprising his role as the Joker in “The Batman Part II.” Keoghan first played the Joker in a deleted scene from “The Batman,” and fans have been clamoring for him to return to the role ever since. Keoghan said that he would be interested in reprising the role, but that it would depend on the script.

“I think the Joker is a fascinating character,” he said. “He’s so complex and unpredictable. I would love to get the chance to explore him further, but it would have to be the right script. I wouldn’t want to do it just for the sake of doing it.”
